PREPARING FOR A SURVEY

Some things you may need to prep before a marine survey:

  • Make sure the vessel is clean, uncluttered, and have all vessel documentation readily available for review and miscellaneous safety gear ready.

  • If applicable, make arrangements with the marina to haul the vessel for a hull and running gear inspection and if applicable, retain the services of a captain for sea trial (or owner/yacht broker).

  • Lockers and cabin areas should be cleared of all miscellaneous gear to provide the surveyor with better access.

The surveyor does not prepare a boat for inspection as this is the owner's or broker's responsibility. The surveyor may request minor dismantling of interior panels, to gain visual access to out of sight areas. Written authorization from the vessel owner or broker may be requested to board the vessel, remove panels and or conduct the physical marine survey.

Once you retain the services of PNW Marine Surveying, we only work for and report to you, no one else. The person paying for the marine survey report receives the report unless notified otherwise. We are here to help protect your interests and act as a mentor and coach if needed both during your purchasing process and afterwards.
