SERVICES

Pre-Purchase Survey

Pre-Purchase Condition and Valuation Surveys are highly comprehensive and are strongly advised when purchasing both a new and used vessel. A haul-out and inspection of the bottom (wetted surfaces) and running gear are also strongly advised. The inspection examines everything that can be accessed using non-destructive methods without disassembly or the use of tools to provide access. The vessel’s structural integrity, condition, and overall operation are examined. Ultrasonic thickness testing of metal hull and deck thicknesses. All vessel systems are examined thoroughly, such as the 120/240VAC and 12/24VDC electrical systems, electronics, navigation equipment, engines and generator, cosmetic appearance and safety gear. The vessel’s compliance is based on the American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and Code of Federal Regulations (USCG Regulations) and is verified. The vessel’s fair market value and the vessel’s replacement value are also determined and included in the report.

Mechanical Survey

Having a qualified marine mechanic evaluate the engines is essential when purchasing a vessel. While we have many years of experience working on numerous makes and models of marine diesel and gas engines, we suggest having a dedicated mechanical inspection performed. Therefore, if you would like PNW Marine Surveying to conduct a “basic” mechanical inspection, including fluid analysis we would be happy to do so. If we don’t have knowledge or experience on the particular type of engine in the boat you are having surveyed, we will be honest and up-front with you. We can provide you with several mechanical surveyor references.

Insurance Survey

Insurance condition and valuation survey is usually an insurance company or underwriter’s requirement and is used to determine if the vessel is an acceptable risk. Insurance surveys share the same elements as the pre-purchase survey, including safety for the vessel’s intended use. Many insurance companies require a current survey on older boats or when changing underwriters.

USCG Captain Services

Rob is a certified USCG Captain, with a USCG Towing Certification.  Is available for delivery services or to help mentor, coach and teach clients to use their new boat. Many insurance companies require customers to seek the services of a USCG Capatin to log time with their new vessel and to become more familiar with how to properly operate, navigate, and dock the vessel. Rob is also USCG Towing Certified to assist with any towing services which may be needed.

Consultation

Rob provides expert consultation on a variety of projects, including failure analysis and repair recommendations.

Engine transmission and drive failure analysis and investigative theory. Our reports detail findings insurance carriers need to make an informed decision. Rob has the experience to determine the proximate cause of loss, mode of failure, and scope of damage; and reviewing repair facility estimates for proper pricing and reasonable labor times in order to diagnosis the problem.
